Ann Edwards
Original paintings, monotypes and giclee prints by the brilliant animal caricaturist and creator of "Chef and Sue". Like Ronald Searle, Ann has a talent for demonstrating the human in animals and the inner animal in humans....
Originally from Blackpool, Ann Edwards now lives and works in a small village in Oxfordshire. She has three daughters, a husband, three dogs, a magnificent cat Thomas, a parrot, seven chickens and two goldfish. Jasper the parrot was a 40th birthday present from her husband. She wanted something for her wrist.
Since 1994 Ann has been painting and exhibiting with growing success. Her work is collected and exhibited both nationally and internationally. She makes her own limited edition prints in very small edition sizes which allows her to hand finish the art, so each limited edition is unique.
Her original work is highly collectable and much sought after.
In Japan Ann's work is enthusiastically collected and in 2006 she went on a signing tour with exhibitions in 10 galleries in the most prestigious stores in Japan, to meet her fans.
Many of Ann’s pictures start life as monotypes (ink and watercolour paintings on paper) which she creates by painting with oil based inks on to glass. She then draws and scratches into the ink and when paper is applied an image appears, as if by magic! The picture is then left to dry for a week hanging from a washing line in her studio.
This technique allowes no room for error, which gives the work spontaneity life and movement. Many works are then finished with the addition of 22ct gold leaf.
